Italy, need help with the planning. My 21 yo daughter and I are meeting my 18yo daughter at the end of her travel abroad trip on June 28 in Florence. Thinking the 21yo and i will start in Rome for a few days and then meet her in Florence then travel to Venice. Also want to take in the Cinque Terra. Suggestions, advice?? 18yo will of already spent several days in Rome. Thanks!!
Your question is broad and you don't specify the number of days you will be in Italy or how many days you need to be in Florence visiting your daughter. Look into some of Rick Steves' (or other) guides to get some ideas, but it's important to know the total number of days (from when to when) you will be in Italy. For the places you mentioned, the Rule of thumb is 3 full days in Rome, 2 full days in Florence, 1 full day in Venice. These are minimums, if you want to add some day trips (like Siena or the Tuscan hill towns from Florence, or the Venetian lagoon islands in Venice, or other parts of Veneto) then you need to add more to those areas. Cinque Terre is near Tuscany (therefore reasonably close to Florence, even closer to Pisa). You could visit Cinque Terre in a full day, but some people prefer to relax there for longer, especially if they want to enjoy some hiking and/or some beach time. Also you need to consider that traveling from one place to another will take 1/2 day of your time, once you include train time, checking in & out of hotels, transfer to/from train station etc. For Rome, Florence, Venice and Cinque Terre you need a minimum of 10-11 nights on the ground in Italy, just for those (no side trips).
