Fly into Rome and take the trains or some other form of transportation to Sorrento the same day:

Sorrento 2 nights
Train to Naples and then to the airport
Fly to Venice
Venice 2 nights
Train to Rome
Rome 3 nights

Or just save Sorrento for another time a separate Campania/Amalfi Coast trip, as it is not easy to get to and you are short on time.

If I had to start the day on a train, I'm not sure I'd go to the trouble of dealing with two airports in order to avoid the approximately 5-hour train ride between Naples and Venice. But then I find trains relaxing and airports not.

There is no 'best', for what you are trying to do. Just too few days for such a geographically spread out itinerary

You can do Rome and ONE other place. Trying to do all will have you just 'traveling' not really visiting.

Agree with the above advice to see Rome and one more place.

Can you see those three places in that amount of time? Yes, of course, but you won't have much time to spend in any of them. If setting your foot in the spot is the most important thing, you'll be okay. If you really want to immerse yourself in those locations, a more relaxed pace might be more fun.

Do you really have 9 days? If you land on Day 1, it takes an hour or two to get off the plane, go through passport control and collect your luggage. Then it's another hour to Rome. That gives you about 1/2 day to sightsee if you stay in Rome. It's a 4-6 hour train ride to Venice. That leaves only 8 days. If your flight home is at night, you'll have a good part of the day to sightsee, but chances are your flight home leaves in the morning. You need about an hour to get to the airport and you need to arrive 3 hours before your flight. Even a 2 or 3 pm flight only leaves you enough time for a leisurely breakfast.

So you probably have 7 days. It will take you most of a day to get from Venice to Sorrento and another 1/2 day to go from Sorrento to Rome. That leaves 5-1/2 days of sightseeing. Doable, yes. Recommended NO!!

Correction. I have 10 days and travel with only carry on. I plan to take high speed train to right after I get off the airport to Salerno and stay 3 ( take day tour and ferry to amalfi from Salerno) get on night train to venice. Stay in venice for 2 day then take high speed train to Rome and stay to the remaining time.

There are trains that take as little as about 6 hours from Salerno to Venice, so I would not subject myself to the misery of a night train. You can leave Salerno at 5:07 PM and reach Venice at 11:35 PM. Alternatively, you can depart at 6:11 AM and arrive at 12:20 PM. There are other options in between, of course.
