Italy 2 week itinerary by train

Hi, I am planning a 2 week train trip to Italy in October. I was wondering if anyone could provide feedback about whether my itinerary/route will work out well logistically. We will be flying into Rome and out of Venice. I've previously visited Tuscany and other areas in Italy over 10 years ago, and have decided on these cities for this trip.
3 nights Rome
3 nights Cinque Terre (day trip to SML and Portofino)
3 nights Varenna
3 nights Verona (day trip to Gardaland - I think my 12 year old will enjoy that)
3 nights Venice
I was deciding between the itinerary above, or Rome to CT to Venice to Verona to Varenna (fly out of Milan). Right now our hotels are booked based on the above. I would appreciate any feedback, thank you!

3 nights Verona - Are you planning day trips to Lake Garda from there? Not certain Verona stands up to that much time unless you love the city and this is just a break in the schedule. Otherwise, routing is fine.

Thank you both so much for your input. I did think the 3 nights in Rome could be longer, and have been trying to find a flight that gets in earlier in the day. But I did want to spend some time visiting the CT towns and also checking out SML and Portofino.. 2 nights would be short for that.
As for Verona, it would just be the day trip to Gardaland theme park.
