I am trying to book on italotreno.com. The first set of tickets went through just fine. The second set got held up at checkout - I got a message that said there is a problem and I need to call. I tried to call and ended up with someone who couldn't speak English. All I know in Italian is "do you speak English" and "I don't understand Italian" so we didn't get very far. I went back to the site and tried to rebook (it had timed out and I started over) and then I got a message saying there was a problem because it was a duplicate order. Does anyone have any suggestions?
You might try email. You could also use google translate and add the translation to the email. This will be a test of their customer service.
Thank you, I had not seen that it is possible to email them. I sent a message using Google translate as you suggested.
I just had the same problem. I did not listen to the little voice in my head that said to call my credit card company first. Perhaps too many little voices?? Anyway, my order was declined, called CC and explained, they authorized the foreign transaction, and when I tried again, I got the duplicate message as well. Then I used the Italo email help, reviewing the issue. 24 hours later I got a response from Italo that said to call them (this was over a weekend). I called the CC folks and explained. This was Chase VISA. The VISA rep offered to make a three way conference call for me and she stayed on the line while Italo comfirmed our purchase in short order. The young woman from Italo spoke beautiful English and was very accommodating; maybe I just got lucky. Her name was Daniella. I was very pleased that VISA was so helpful. Good luck.
hi, I got that message too, it turned out to be my cc was questioning transaction, once that was cleared up, it went thru. My cc called me within a minute. American Express. Im glad they watch things but I was not sure what to to if that wasn't the case.
Jennie, notify your bank and any other credit card companies of your travel plans (dates and countries) so you don't have purchases or withdrawals declined while you are in Italy. By the way, Amex has a foreign transaction fee, many other cards don't (Visa and Capital One come to mind).
Discover is virtually useless in Italy, in my experience last year.
Thanks for all of your input! After sending them an email, I did think of calling my credit card company, but it wasn't them. Then I tried to call Italo again, after practicing what to say in Italian. This time I was referred to an English speaking operator who was very helpful. She didn't know what the problem was, but she found my half-processed order and was able to take my credit card info over the phone to complete it. Now I am awaiting my confirmation email. My only concern is whether I wrote down the confirmation number she gave me correctly; she was a little hard to understand. If I don't receive anything within a few days, I will email them to request the confirmation. I have not received confirmation for today's earlier order that went through just fine on the website, so apparently they don't sent out those confirmations quickly. I am so thankful for the RS book and all of the travel experts on this forum. I would not have known anything about the fast trains, but I was able to get the tickets for under $30!
I had to e-mail them recently because I had only received one confirmation e-mail out of the two trips booked. I had made note of the two booking confirmation codes, but feel better with the actual e-mail in hand too. I took almost a week to get an answer from customer service, along with the re-sent missing confirmation. I'm satisfied with the company up to now, but they are slow with the customer service e-mail response time.
