Is the Italo Treno app easy to use to buy tickets on the fly? Some ticket kiosks can be challenging to navigate & I’m hoping the app is a good alternative!

You might also have a look at some of the reseller websites, such as Trainline.com - https://www.thetrainline.com/?redirected=true . They sell tickets for both major rail networks in Italy, as well as many other countries in Europe, so that provides "one stop shopping". I can't recall if they charge a small service fee, but I don't have a problem with that. I've used them in the past and was always pleased with the service.

App, kiosks and site use the same graphic interface and are based on the same core code.
Why don't you install the app and try a couple of fake purchases from the comfort of your living room?
The problem with resellers like Trainline.com is that resellers have no legal obligation to show the complete schedules and all classes of trains.
Neither Trenitalia nor Italotreno are required to provide administrative assistance to re-sellers' customers.
Then there is the fee. And non protected connections between competing companies that resellers sell as through tickets.
