We want to take the train from Rome (after returning rental car) to Naples; looking at the Italo speed train; looks and sounds great; and a great price too! Any feedback or experience with this train? We will be spending 9 days in Tuscany, then 9 days on the Amalfi coast; staying a few days in Praiano and Sorrento! Also looking for drivers from Napoli to where we're staying in Praiano.
Pat, You can certainly take the Italo train from Rome to Naples, however you'll be departing from Tiburtina station in Rome rather than Termini. You could also use the Freccia high speed trains from Termini. For information on drivers, I believe www.monettitaxi17.it/ is the one that Rick uses. You'll have to contact them for prices. Happy travels!
I traveled round trip Rome/Naples/Rome last October on Italo, because of risk of rail strike on Trenitalia. Tiburtina is two metro stops from Termini; you could take a taxi, as we did. Tiburtina is refurbished inside. Italo was wonderful: departed and arrived on time. Train was spotless, service professional, ride was smooth and quiet; elapsed travel time each way was one hour. I hope you have a wonderful time in Italy.
Hi Pat, we are also trying Italo to go from Rome to Naples in mid-September for a stay in Sorrento. As for a driver, a friend of mine stays in Priano every year. She uses Carlo Arcucci (wiselytravelling.com) and swears by him. He also gets great reviews on trip advisor. We will be using him for the ride from Naples to the hotel & back, as well as for a full day tour of the Amalfi Coast. Hope that helps.
THanks so much everyone for all of the great info! If it's possible, I am even more excited to see Praiano, hearing finally of someone who has actually stayed there on a regular basis! and the Italo train will be our choice of transportation as well. Now to choose a driver!! what fun!!! Thanks and happy travels to you all!
Pat I can highly recommend ITALO. Returned several weeks ago from a 3-week trip to Italy and we used ITALO for our main train travels, i.e. Venice to Florence; Florence to Naples and Naples to Rome. Their website is very user-friendly so was able to easily book tickets prior to leaving home and there is free wi-fi onboard. You just need the code off your ticket. Yes, the train goes to Tiburtina station in Rome and we just took a taxi to our apt. near Piazza Navonna. Termini is just a few subway stops away from Tiburtina station. We will definitely use ITALO on future visits to Italy.
