Italo Train

Hi there, I will be in Italy next week. I am taking Italo from Florence to Bologna. On my ticket it has the couch number and seat number. I know there will be more than one car/couch with 1 on it, how do I know which car/couch is mine? Thanks 😊

Each coach/car has a different number and that is on your ticket. Don't know what you mean -- "will be more than one car/couch with 1 on it." All cars generally will have a 1 or 2 indicating first or second class. Is that what you are referencing?

Coach, not couch. The coach numbers are clearly marked on the outside of each coach, near the doors. That is different than the class of each coach, which will also be marked on the exterior of the coach.

The newest trains display the coach number and destination on LED panels on the door but even the older trains will display the coach number as well as which end of the coach is the start rows 1-15 and the other end to help you figure out which door is closer to your seat.

Many train stations will also display the arrival spots of different numbered coaches on TV screens by the tracks. This helps you to be in the correct spot when the train pulls in and not be running down the platform after the train pulls into the station.

Be warned that in Bologna the fast trains arrive 3 levels down so allow extra time if you are taking a train out of Bologna. If you are arriving there is will be an airport style transfer to get to the surface level.

Have a great trip,

There are many Youtube vlogs from train guys who take Italo so you can get a true sense of what it will be like

Getting in the right train car is easy if you pay attention. There are also usually train workers on the platform who can assist you, particularly in a large station like Florence.
The real challenge is getting out of the station in Bologna! IYKYK. 😄

Thank you everyone for the helpful answers/suggestions. Also for catching my spelling error. Lol 🤦🏻‍♀️
This is my second solo trip, and I get lost very easily, so I’m kind of nervous but very excited.
Frank from CO, yes that’s what I was referring to, so the 1 on my ticket is the car number not the class.
I will definitely check out the train guy’s videos.
Thanks again 😊

There should also be text above the numbers on a ticket
Carozza = coach
Posto = seat
Orario = time
Also useful
Binario = track

Also - don’t make the mistake I once made and get on the wrong train to the right destination. There were 2 different train companies operating the same route, and there were delays involved. The conductor checking tickets let me know I was on the wrong train (had not paid his company), and advised me where to get off to get on the train I had paid for. So - be sure to check the train number on the platform and make sure it is your train. First find the train number, then the coach, then the seat.
