Italo train

Italo train has an offering called Italo Friends. Offers discounts for groups of 2-10 persons. We are a group of 7 persons and the savings would be significant. Is it good for Americans? Or just Italians? I can't find anywhere in the information that the tickets are limited to Italians.

I used it as a non Italian back in October. Just don't miss your allotted train.

No catch except the number of people. I booked several trains using the Italo Friends for our trip in March

It’s for everyone and there’s no catch. I prefer Italo to Trenitalia and usually get better deals when purchasing in advance, which I did last week for a slew of tickets for my student group in May.

Discounts from 45% to 70% are calculated using the price of the Flex fare. This offer is valid for groups ranging from 2 up to 10 passengers for journeys in Smart class and Prima class. This offer is subject to availability and modifiable up to 3 days before the departure date. This offer is non-refundable and tickets must be purchased at least 6 days before the intended departure date. It is possible to purchase tickets using this offer through all sales channels (except through on-board personnel).

The catch is in bold

  • many groups prefer a single, easy purchase and they could not be bothered to compare the various discounted fares to find the cheapest option. An "Italo Friends" ticket at 45% could be more expensive than the "Low Cost" or the new "extra Magic" fares (I wonder who picks these names)
  • remember it's a group ticket. If one needs to change his/her travel plans last minute, the all group has a problem.

the information that the tickets are limited to Italians.

Because It's for everybody, otherwise they'd write it in the T&Cs I pasted above. No company wants a crowd of complaining brexiters at the counter any given summer day. The level of justified British outrage would be overwhelming for all employees.

As a side note, an offer limited to Italians would be illegal. Limited to EU citizens, at most. But this is not the case.
