Italio vs Trentitalia

I am about to book my train trips and was told and read these two trains are comparable and competitive, however, the prices are considerably less on Italio than Trentalia I would appreciate feedback so i can book Italio with confidence.

Thank you!

We’ve used both trains and the Italo seems to have some newer trains. Both do the job. We pick the one that has the better time, more direct and better price. Sometimes we’ve gotten the first class seating with Italo (or whatever they call the upgraded seats) for the same or a little bit more than the second class seats. The train car for the upgraded seats have more room and you get a drink and a snack.

I was skeptical about booking on Italo my first time since they had only been around for 2 years and their prices were much cheaper, but someone I trusted assured me they were legit so I took a chance. I was thankful I did. They did not feel like a budget competitor cutting corners to save money. Train interiors were clean and modern. Their station assistance staff were friendly and their lounges were the cleanest and most comfortable spot in the station.

Annalisa,

Which routes are you going to be travelling? Note that Italo only operates on the high speed routes, so there are a lot of places in Italy that they don't cover. In my experience, the high speed services are comparable and with that in mind, I'd suggest choosing whichever trains best fit your schedule at the best price, regardless of which rail network you're using.

I took both a couple of weeks ago on the same route (out and return). Both were fine. Take whichever one is either cheaper or fits your schedule.

Annalisa,
note that italotreno shows the price per person and trenitalia per group.

Italo's Discounted tickets are usually cheaper than trenitalia's, but sometimes they seem more cheaper than they actually are.

Have used both but on trips in last 5 yrs have used ITALO more. Always have done 2nd class on Trenitalia arrows, 1st class on InterCity trains & 2nd class on ITALO trains.

We like Italo and use their first class for transfers to the next stay. One reason is the smaller cabin and few travelers on this. I can put luggage in the designated area without difficulty. I use second class Trenitalia for day trips.
I prefer Italo.
