Has anyone planned a wedding in Italy? I would like to get married in Italy next fall and don't even know where to start. There are many websites for Italian Wedding planning, just wondering if anyone has any tips or suggestions!
Erin, if you want a legal wedding, as opposed to a ceremonial one, you really need to hire an Italian wedding planner to help with all the paperwork and requirements. It is expensive, but they will make sure it is done correctly. Your best bet might be to decide on where you would like to be married, and then seek recommendations for a good planner for that particular place. . . . The other option is to have a ceremonial "wedding" in Italy, and then have a simple civil ceremony in Vancouver either right before or right after to make it legal.
Excellent advice, thanks again!
I eloped in Rome - it was fantastic! I do recommend getting a wedding planner. Ours wasn't expensive at all, but as I said, we eloped so we didn't need a package per se.
Congratulations and good luck!
Try this wedding planner in Lucca.
definitely Italian wedding planner/friends got married in Positano in June and there was a lot of paper work involved they said afterwards they could not have done it on their own they had to go to consulate in the states/they had to meet with church officials here and had to go to city hall in Naples several days before wedding to finalize paper work etc the only hitch they had was after ceremony the best man could not sign documents at the church as he did not have his passport on him so one of the guests stood in it was definitely worth the money if not/do as previous guest said and have a wedding here and a ceremony there good luck
Here's advice from the US State Dept. to US citizens thinking of getting married in Italy, some of this may also apply to a Canadian citizen:
