Italian websites

Is it just me, or Italian websites difficult or just cranky? I tried to get tickets for the Scovengni chapel and ran around the site for two days, registered then tried to enter. The site said my user name or password were wrong or my info had not yet been registered. I re-registered using different info and it didn't work. I registered using the same info and it said this info was already in use! Frustrating. I tried to use Italia rail to check on the schedule from Termini to Orvieto. It kept deleting my info as fast as I entered it. Finally, I went to the always dependable DB site and got my train info easily. So if you want train info in Italy, go to the German site. this is also true in Spain. Good lick! Hank novato

hank,

For train info in Italy, the Trenitalia website is very reliable, as they're the ones that actually operate the trains. If you want to buy advance tickets for italy, use either Trenitalia or www.captaintrain.com which is a more user friendly website.

Well, Deutsche Bahn is the gold standard of train websites. I often wonder why other railroads don't just license DB's software, but other country's web developers need work too, so we'll just have to put up with it.

I think part of the problem is legal requirements Italians have about registration, national identity card information, etc. When bureaucrats set the website requirements, we all know what happens.

To tell the truth Italiarail is a Boston based company, an authorized Trenitalia re-seller with an US made website.
Out of curiosity, are the Germans already showing schedules after June 11 ?

We don't have any legal requirement about how to register on the internet and the bureaucrats didn't set anything about it.

I have never had problems with the websites mentioned, except that the clock on Trenitalia.com makes me nervous about timing out before I complete the transaction (although that's never happened).

Hank, the problems you describe sound like issues I have when I use an old laptop and need to fill in forms on some websites. Very frustrating. I have no issues on the same websites when I use a newer desktop or tablet computer.
