Italian vacation almost here!

I just want to thank posters for their advice that I've read and used for the past year. We arrive in Venice on Sept. 1 for two nights, train to Florence for 3 nights, rent a car and an apartment near Barga for a week with day trip to CT, drive to Civita for a night, return car at Rome airport, 3 days/2 nights in Rome, Marozzi bus to Sorrento for 2 nights...will do Pompeii and Herculaneum, bus to Naples for 1 day/1 night, flight to Rome to home. Dream vacation! Thanks for all your help.

If you're spending two nights in Sorrento and one in Naples and plan to see Pompeii and Herculaneum then buy the 3-day Campania Artecard (25 euros). It will more than pay for itself. The first two sites you visit will be free as well as unlimited use of the Circumvesuviana train and Naples metro to get to there. The Circumvesuviana runs between Naples and Sorrento with many stops in between. The Pompei Scavi stop lets you out at the front door to Pompeii. The Ercolano Scavi stop (Herculaneum) is a 15-20 minute walk however. Just follow the brown signs downhill from the station to the parking lot at the ruins. You can also use the Artecard to get into the Naples Archaeological museum at a 50% discount. It's also good for 10% off in the museum store.

Gary, We plan on getting the Campania ArteCard for the
Circumvesuviana for Pompeii and Herculaneum. Is there a better order for visiting the sites? We also want to use the carde in Naples for the Archeological Museum and I'm hoping it will also give us a discount when we visit Capella Sansevero. Does anyone have a really good answer for how hot it will be in southern Italy during the middle of September? Will we need jackets or will it still be in the 70's?
