Last March I went on an Etruscan quest to Volterra and Orvieto and thoroughly enjoyed the museums and sights but I need a new quest in Italy. Any ideas? I love art, history, ancient sights, museums, good restaurants. Thanks in advance, Mary
I find the pirate stories of the Sorrentine Penninsula (including the Amalfi Coast) to be fun and exiting! And from there - Paestum is amazing.
Sounds like Tuscany to me! Really old castles, awesome food, and art that is bested only by bigger names, not bigger talent. I can't think of a better place. Caio, Jeff
If you like ancient Greek, you could consider Sicily, which is the trip I'm planning for next March. Some of the best Greek temples outside of Greece itself and Sicilian food is supposedly among the best.
What about Emilia-Romagna? There's a pretty strong Etruscan history there (Bologna's Archaeological museum is pretty cool, as is the museum that has the old items from the university, including professors' tombs), you'd be hard pressed to find better food anywhere, Parma has some important art, the whole region is not too touristy, etc. And honestly, as much as I love Rick's travel materials, it was a bit fun to be somewhere he has ignored thus far.
wow, Italy is definately for you.
Give Pompeii, Naples and the amalfi coast down to Paestum a try next trip.
