Italian trains

I have a trip upcoming end of July to Lake Como for a wedding. Afterwards we will be travelling to Lucca. Trying to book our trains in advance & keep getting "schedule not out yet". I thought you could purchase your tkts 3 mos in advance?
Any advice??
Sorry, leaving Varenna-Esino Aug 6th - one way. Have been searching on Trenitalia. I also signed up with an email reminder, my friend has as well, advising us when the schedule opens.

From where on lake Como are you trying to book tickets? And for what date?

What website are you using to book?

I just checked on Trenitalia app for July 26
Varenna to Lucca and see plenty of bookable trains

I believe there is construction on part of that route

Trains go to Lake Como from Milan constantly. No reservations needed for a 45 minute ride.

On Trenitalia website there are several solutions from Varenna to Lucca. Be sure to choose even an hour like 4am to be sure to see all possible solution during the day.
Anyway, please note that this Summer the train line Lecco-Tirano will be closed for maintenance. The trains will be replaced by buses: https://www.trenord.it/en/routes-and-timetables/journey/our-lines/tirano-sondrio-lecco-milano-regioexpress-line/
Means that there isn't a direct connection Varenna - Milano, so you must use at least a bus plus 3 trains (Varenna
-Lecco, Lecco-Milano, Milano-Firenze, Firenze-Lucca).

Aug 6
I see trains available all day on both the app and the website
No clue why you are not seeing them

As noted above there is construction so it’s a bus for a portion

Plan on 3-4 changes and a long travel day

The schedula Varenna - Lucca should show up on Trenitalia, including the replacement bus. There is no need to plan the bus and the train separately.

Generally: When a railway is temporarlly replaced by a bus you do not need to do anything differently. You just plan and book normally. Train tickets are valid for the substitute bus. The only thing to be aware of is that in Italy they often take their time when it comes to putting the bus schedules in the train timetable, so when booking far in advance you can sometimes come up empty.
