Italian train tickets - Where to buy?

We want to take a train from Rome to Pompeii on our first Monday in Rome. Here's the question: Is it better to get the tickets through our tavel agent (AAA, specfically, with a $30 fee) before we leave the US or wait until we get to Rome? Or to go on-line and book them ourselves. We'll arrive in Rome around noon on Saturday. Not knowing what will be available for information or purchase on Sunday, would it be better to get the tickets here? We would like to leave for Pompeii early Monday morning, and it would be ideal to have our plans finalized before heading to Termini. Any guidance and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

In the same situation, I'd wait until arrival in Rome to purchase the tickets. As you're arriving on Saturday, you can easily purchase tickets at Termini station on Sunday, for travel on Monday. If you purchase early on Sunday, you may be able to get one of the "Mini" fares. You can purchase tickets either from the staffed ticket office or use one of the automated Kiosks (credit card required). As the previous reply indicated, the tickets purchased in Rome will provide travel to Naples. When you arrive at Napoli Centrale, walk downstairs to the Circumvesuviana and purchase tickets for the trip to Pompeii (check their website for prices and other details).

The Circumvesuviana train from Naples to Sorrento is a private local train. No reservations. But, don't worry. It's an often crowded local train. It's really cheap also. About 2Euro each way to and from the Pompei-Scavi stop. If no seats, you can stand. Pompei-Scavi is about 25 minutes out of Naples on this train.

I always buy my tickets right at the train station - prior to boarding. As posted earlier here......some of the trains are crowded, but that adds to the charm.
