Italian Train Ticket Help Needed!

I just booked 2 different sets of train tickets for the SAME train on the SAME day! They are economy tickets, but I can't seem to change either reservation to new a destination (I need to book another set of tickets for another day, so changing the destination and date would be ideal).

I've booked these tickets through the Trenitalia site, which has a HELP section, but to send in a request to speak with anyone requires a Tax Code, which I don't have.

Has anyone had luck communicating with this company from the US? Do I just wait til I'm there to try and sort this out?

Thank you!!!

On base fares, change rules are liberal and you could change to a new route / destination. However, you say you bought Economy tickets. For those, the website clearly says changes can only be made to date and time; so not surprised the website isn't letting you change destination. If it were me, I would book the other tix separately, then when there, decide if you want to talk to somebody in person to explain your situation and ask if a refund is possible. Can't hurt to ask, but I'm guessing the agent's computer wouldn't even be able to process it, even if they were sympathetic.

I'm not sure this will solve your problem, but this is the official Trenitalia information for Economy tickets......

https://www.trenitalia.com/en/offers/the_economy_ticket.html

If you plan to book any more tickets, you might try using the Trainline site. I believe they charge a small fee, but I've found their customer service to be very responsive.

The tickets at discounted fare (Economy, Supereconomy, etc.) are now refundable (it was not the case in the past) but in order to be reimbursable you must have purchased the “TiRimborso” (I Reimburse you) option at the time you purchased the ticket. That option costs an additional €2 on top of the price of the ticket and is basically an insurance option. If you purchased it, you are entitled to the refund less 10%, in other words the refund is 90% of what you paid (which is still better than €0). However you must have purchased the “TiRimborso” option at the time of purchase of the ticket.
Regarding the tax code, that is called Codice Fiscale and you can generate it yourself since it’s based on your name, gender, birthdate, and province (or country) of birth. The number generated by various websites is not official but good enough for the purpose of proceeding on the Trenitalia website.
Here is one website.

Make sure your name matches your name in the passport. In the first name field make sure you include your middle name if you have one. If you were born in the US, enter it in Italian under place of birth (STATI UNITI D’AMERICA)

Thank you all for your suggestions and help. I think I'll wait until I get to Italy and see what can be done at the train station. I have a bad feeling I'm just out that money but we'll see what happens. I'm still trying to wrap my head around how I did this...I think there were gremlins in the website ;)
