Italian train schedules: is it too early for May schedule?

I am trying to see what the typical train schedule is like from Rome to Venice, for a specific date in May. Is it too early to get such info? i went to trenitalia.com and italiarail.com and they re only showing one train leaving Rome at 7pm and arriving in Venice at 1am. Will more schedules populate the train schedule for Rome to Venice as I get closer to my expected date of departure in May?

Yes, the schedules will populate more as you get closer, but keep checking. In order to estimate times and prices, simply enter a date that is the same day fo the week you plan to travel in May, but is only say two or three weeks from now. For example, if you plan to travel on a Saturday in May, enter February 4 or 11 to see a "typical" Saturday schedule. The schedules and proces don't change by too much overall, so it's good for planning.

Usually you should be able to see the fares and schedules for May but for some reason they are not really showing up past May 6th. As mentioned earlier just use an earlier date and you'll get an idea of times, costs and length of journey. No one is sure why the schedule isn't posted after the 6th but the guess is it could be a price increase. I guess we'll all just have to wait and see. Donna

Just pick the same day of the week next week and use those dates if you want a feel for the schedule. The train schedules change very little from one cycle to another. The most would see might be a couple of minute change in arrivals or departure.

Hi Mike, I am travelling in May also & have checked the Trenitalia site. Wait until April and you will see the schedules. Check out the "mini fares". These are good on 1st and 2nd class high speed trains and will save you money with a set itinerary. The downside if you change your schedule. Regards,
Ross

You won't need to wait until April. As of this morning the Trenitalia site shows complete timetables and fares for Rome-Venice through 6 May. A week from now you should be able to see them through 13 May, etc. It's not because of a price increase. Trenitalia only lists complete timetables up to around three months in advance. The German Rail site shows complete timetables up to and including 9 June. New timetables will go into effect throughout most of Europe on 10 June.

They are trying to figure out whether to price the May trips in Euros or in Lire's. Just kidding! The train schedules are only posted for the near future, as Italian government is in the process of major layoffs of employees. Big changes are coming. Just be prepared to roll with the flow. Trains are the predominant way Italians move from city to city. It's all to be continued . . . . . . .
