What are some Italian dishes I should be sure to try while in Venice and Rome?
Try the hot chocolate in Venice a the San Marc square. It is worth the money to sit and listen to the bands duel at night. The chocolate was very rich and yummy I can not remember the name of the one we went to but in the Rick Steves book it is not the oldest coffee maker or the most modern cafe it is in the middle and had great desserts not dinners.
Be courageous! Try anything that's not on an Italian menu back home!
Keep away from the "Turistico" menus - spaghetti bolognase seems to be the favoured dish on them! Be adventurous and remember that Italian meals have many courses: antipasto, primo (usually pasta), secondo (meat), verdure (vegetables), and dolce (dessert), however noone seemed upset if you chose just to have antipasta and pasta or secondo and dolce. And of course real Gelato!
