My wife and I are spending some time in the Riviera next May/June and before heading to the Cinque Terra we have 3 nights to spend in another town that is in-between the French Border and the CT. Any town suggestions with Hotels? I was thinking about San Remo, but we are open. If you like San Remo any input on hotels, sight etc. would be much appreciated.
Happy Travels!

We loved Santa Margarita Ligure for 2 nights at Hotel Nuova Rivera in Ricks book. they even have parking but you can walk everywhere from this hotel. Also consider visiting Carrera quarry area. It is an industrial area and working quarry but our friends Leonardo and Michangelo have made it an imp. visit along the way.
Sestri Levante a beach town near Cinque Terra.
Both the towns listed in the above posts are just beautiful. I wasn't fortunate enough to stay in either but they are definately on my list to return to. Had the best seafood meal ever in SL.
My wife and I spent two nights in Sta. Margherita Ligure on our way to 5terre on our honeymoon in September. It's a beautiful town, and the ferry to Portofino is great, and Portofino is definitely worth a look. This area is like the average joe's Monte Carlo. You can't go wrong along the coast between Genoa and 5terre. We actually stayed at Hotel Laurin in Sta. Marghertia, which is a Best Western, but it was very nice with awesome views from the patio off of our room and also a nice pool and terrace. The best meal we had in Liguria was there at A' Lampara, recommended in Rick's book. Very nice, very reasonable, very tasty. Enjoy!
Levanto is really nice, and only about a 20 minute train ride to Monterosso, the closest village in CT. Levanto had lots of neat little ristorantes and bars, as well as a gorgeous beach. There are tons of hotels downtown as well, and all are relatively afforable.
We stayed at Albergo Gentile and had an immaculate (and very nicely decorated) room for 60 EUR per night, shared bathroom. The room had a sink and a laundry drying line as well.
Enjoy!
Some further input on Levanto and Santa Margherita. I stay in Levanto at Erba Persa Agriturismo when visiting the area between Genoa and Cinque Terre. It is a small old villa, rural, yet close to the train station and there is a small market across the street. You can easily walk to town and to the beautiful bay. Two very good restaurants there, Da Rino's (in RS) and Creuza De Ma, both typical Ligurian food. I like to day trip to S Margherita. I like the harbor, the shops (a favorite 100+ yr old candy store) and the tromp l'oil (sp) on the buildings. A short, 1-2 euro bus ride will take you to Portofino for a stroll amongst the rich and probably not so famous. Train one direction and boat the other. Also just north of S Margherita is Camogli, which has one of the prettiest little harbors I've ever seen. I have not stayed there, but I wouldn't mind.
