We have 5-6 days to enjoy Liguria area from Camogli/Santa Margherita Ligure to the towns of Cinque Terre. Is it best to take trains south from SML or Camogli to Cinque Terre, or stay in one hill town for a couple days to enjoy that apart from day trippers, then stay in SML/Portofino area separately?
A separate question: there is a town about forty five miles into the mountains where I believe my ancestors were (namesake town of Lagomarsino). Rather than renting a car for the day, is there a car service to hire a driver who may even know something about the town?

It's just a personal preference--unpack once or unpack twice. You could do two bases or one. I actually preferred the hiking in Portofino park (adjacent to Camogli and SML), but a lot depends on time of year.
However, Lagomarsino is closer to Camogli/SML, so I would look for your private driver from there. With money, all things are possible, so I am sure you could find a driver, but I don't know how to find one familiar with the town. Hopefully someone will come along with tips for this kind of research. I think you want to pinpoint the commune and go from there.
