Hotel Oceania is near the corner of Via Firenze and Via XX Setembre. For a good reasonably priced meal, try Ristorante da Giovanni just off Via XX Settembre on Via Antonio Salandra (2 blocks from hotel). I've eaten there several times and have always enjoyed it. There are also some nice restaurants along Via Flavia, which parallels Via XX Settembre starting at Via Antonio Salandra (next street past da Giovanni). The better ones are on the second block - left side.

We will be staying at the Hotel Oceana in September, so thanks for the tips on dining. Can we walk from there to Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps? It does not look far but I can not tell if it is easy to cross what looks like a major street with high traffic. Do most have overhead walkways or pedestrian tunnels? Thanks

We stayed at the Oceania two years ago and walked to the Forum from there. Your best best is to get a metro pass and us the Repubblica station as a base to get places from the Oceania. It's a coulple of blocks from the hotel. We are staying there again this September. If you arrive by train you have to cross some busy streets, but if you go down and catch the metro from Termini to Repubblica you can bypass a lot of traffic and street crossings. It is only one stop from Termini.

Cindy Not sure where you are use to traveling but you will not find overhead or underground street crossings in Rome. Standard traffic lights in Rome but stay alert since Romans are not known for strict attention to traffic lights.

We stayed at Oceania in March and walked everywhere, including the Vatican (about 50 minutes). For us, walking and exploring neighborhoods, and seeing sites along the way are part of the travel experience. (and you get to walk off all that great pasta and gelato!) Spanish Steps are about a 15 minutes walk from the hotel- lots of good restaurants around there. And we aren't young- early 60's- but fit. Also- I wouldn't hesitate to walk alone, even at night. Felt very safe in Rome. Busy streets are part of the Rome experience but not a problem to cross. Just be mindful, as always. It's a short, easy walk from Termini to Oceania which we did several times with our carry-on roller bags, as we came and went from Rome/Oceania. Really, walking is FUN! the hotel highly recommended a restaurant in the neighborhood, named Target, which we thought was OK, but don't see what the fuss is about. But the couple next to us thought was excellent. It depends on your tastes. We ate at a simple little place the first night we got in (in pouring rain). Don't remember the name but as you walk out Oceania turn left, walk down to the first cross street, cross over and it's on the right, with tables outside. Food was reasonably priced and tasty. Loved Gabriello near the Spanish Steps.
