The Italian third largest mobile phone provider Wind (which is actually Russian controlled) and the fourth largest provider 3 Italia have completed their merger and the new merged company will be now the largest provider in Italy with 33.5% of the market, surpassing both TIM and Vodafone (32% and 27% of the market respectively).
Many thanks for this bit of news, Roberto....
Question, do you know if they will all go by the Wind name? Or something else?
There are a couple of Wind stores on Venice which I have visited - one in the station, and one near the Rialto markets - and I'd like to be able to recognise them when I next visit ....
I just hope they don't shut down all the Wind stores...
Don't know if the company will change name of either or both of the two brands. Wind is the one that bought the other.
I presume there will be few or no store closings, unless they happen to have a Wind store and a 3 store too close to each other.
I was thinking TIM for my two month stay in Tuscano. Should I rethink that?
They are all fine.
I have Vodafone, primarily because it's the only provider that has good reception in the area where I have my country house.
Jim,
"I was thinking TIM for my two month stay in Tuscano. Should I rethink that?"
I doubt that much will change as a result of the merger, especially in the short term, so I wouldn't see any reason to change to a different network. TIM has good coverage in most parts of Italy, so that's the main thing I'd be looking at.
