Italian Lake District

We've been to Lake Como twice and our friends want to go to this area; which other lake would you recommend we stay at?

Thank you for any info anyone can give me...

Stresa on Lake Maggiore is nice and easy to get to from the airport. You don't even need to go all the way into Milan, just to Busto Arsizio outside the airport to get the train to Stresa.
With a car, even easier.

If arriving at Milan MXP: Lake Maggiore (Stresa is good)
If arriving at Venice VCE: Lake Garda (I like North Lake area better, but Peschiera or Desenzano are more easily accessible by train)

jean,

I'd also recommend Lake Maggiore and Stresa. It's a beautiful city with some interesting sights, including the Borromeo Islands. While there you could also take a day trip to Locarno (CH) via the scenic Cento Valli Railway.

Lake Garda always seems to be overlooked by the Italian Lakes crowd, including Rick Steves. Lago di Garda is very touristy and crowded in the South End. We visited there once and did not return. From Torri de Benaco north the east side of the lake is gorgeous and leads to our two favorite places- Torbole (small) and Riva del Garda, larger. The west bank is more mountainous but is definitely worth visiting especially Limone.
