I recently purchased a round brush hot air electric hair dryer/styler from Amazon Italy for my first trip to Italy. The electrical cord has 2 round prongs, which I am guessing is a C plug. I understand that Italy uses L plugs. Will this hair dryer work in Italy?
Italy uses 2 round prongs, 3 round prongs or 2 big round prongs.... You are fine with what youVe got, worst case scenario if you have the 2 big ones you may need an adapter but you can find them everywhere as everyone here has the same problem.
pf,
First of all, the Hair Dryer will work in Italy. One point to note is that there are two diameters of round pins used in European plugs, 4.0mm and 4.8mm. If the plug on the dryer is a "C" model and has the smaller pins, these are typically limited to a current draw of 2.5 amps or less. That's about 600 watts, so a bit light for a hair appliance.
The "F" model plug has the larger 4.8mm plugs and is often referred to as a Schuko plug. These plugs are rated at 16 amps. If your hair dryer has the larger pins, they may or may not fit into Italian outlets.
The "L" model plug is for grounded appliances and while you could use that, there's no reason to as the hair dryer is ungrounded and only comes with two pins.
One last point to mention is that you may not need to pack along a Hair Dryer at all, as most hotels provide these. If they're not mounted in the room, they can be obtained at the front desk.
Yes. Small appliances with a plastic chassis do not require an earth connector so they have a C plug, that is an L plug without the central connector.
I agree with the PP that you won't need a hair dryer. I've stayed in flats and hotels in Europe for 15 years and have always had a hairdryer provided at the place I'm staying.
