I'll also be in Italy in the spring, and I might try one also. Looks interesting....

The McDonald's restaurants on this side of the pond could take a few lessons from their Italian colleagues. Some of the restaurants there are really nice, with separate salad, coffee and pastry bars.

It actually makes me curious enough to try one when I am in Rome later this month (well, maybe)

I did though see one report that McDonalds second most profitable country (After the US) is now France, and given the weather outside, somewhere may actually be freezing over after all!

The article made my mouth water enough that I'm also eager to try one! And if that upsets the slow food culinary snobs, I'll chew it very slowly;)

All the way to Italy to try a hamburger...that's sad ;) There goes the benefits of the Mediterranean diet!

We have eaten at a M.D. twice in our lives and that was when we were on the road and there was no where else. We will be in Italy for two months in March and April and we cannot believe anyone would even consider eating at a M.D. while in Europe. (By the way we are in our late 60's early 70's.)

I will at least add that in a dozen overseas trips, I have never eaten in a McDonalds, though I have been tempted to try the Greek Pita sandwich, a Pork sandwich in Germany, something I don't quite recall in Japan, and now the Italian sandwich. Like it or not, McDonalds is a cultural icon, and I do appreciate that they work hard to offer something local.

One of the most interesting culinary experiences I had was a breakfast at a Denny's in Japan, it was a traditional Japanese breakfast, but with a fast food twist, so I can imagine even a McDonalds being a cultural experience.

I always make it a point to try a local "American" restaurant when overseas just to see their interpretation of our food. My favorite was a 50's diner recreation in Olso where the burgers were so big that you could only eat them with a knife and fork. For some strange reason, I found it very interesting.

McDonalds has two things that I like.Bathrooms and Ice in soft drinks.

Hmmm...just wondering. Do you think at some point down the road Italy is going to have an obesity problem - especially in kids?

Yeah, this new burger is actually a covert program by the CIA to fatten up the next generation of Italian soccer players. It's the only way the US can ever win the World Cup!
