Italian Bed Sizes

Would somebody be able to translate North American bed sizes into Italian sizes? For example, a Canadian twin would be called what in Italy? And what would a Canadian King bed be called in Italy?

What I have noticed in traveling is that what we would call a king bed in N. America is often called a queen bed.

You can look up the dimensions online but I have found that to be of limited use.

Frankly, I look at the pictures online of the rooms to figure it out. We prefer a king and I have never failed to be able to determine that from photos.

Are you planning to buy a mattress in Italy or just to estimate what you will get in a typical hotel?

These are the standard measurements in Italy, what they translate in Canadian standards I don’t know, just get a metric tape measure and compare. WxL in centimeters:
Single bed standard: 80x190 or 80x200
Single bed extra (wider): 90x190 or 200
Piazza e Mezzo (1+1/2): 120x190 or 200
Francese (French): 140x190 or 200
Matrimoniale Classico: 160x190 or 200
King Size: 180x190 or 200

The length of 200 cm is more prevalent nowadays than a few decades ago when I lived in Italy and it was almost exclusively 190cm unless special orders. I guess Italians are growing taller. If the hotel or vacation home furnished the place at IKEA, it’s almost certainly a 200cm in length. At IKEA in Italy I have seen only that length. At hotels with less than 4 stars often they have 2 single beds (each of 80cm in width, and 190 or 200 in length) that they put next to each other to make a Matrimoniale Classico).. 4 star hotels are more likely to have a matrimoniale classico, rather than 2 singles next to each other, or even 2 separate Piazza e Mezzo (1+1/2 place) of 120cm in width, but the latter are rare and usually only in more expensive resorts.
