We loved Senigallia. It's about 3 hours from Venice (via Bologna) by train. Great huge sandy beach. Lots of hotels have children's play areas on the beach. Good restaurants along the beach, and in the town. Wonderful place.

Riccioni or Rimini or Catolica -- all on the Adriatic side, and very popular with Italian Families. Riccioni even has little entertainment areas roped off for the children with entertainers, sing-alongs, etc. The town has a little train for families and traffic is blocked off for cars. It is touristy -- but so very family friendly.

your post refers to "family friendly" towns, but are you looking for beaches that do not permit toplessness or nudity?
