As most of you all know ITA is "replacing" Alitalia with first day of service October 15, 2021. Here is the official website: https://www.itaspa.com/content/itaspa/itaspa-pl/en/homepage.html Please note this is not the finalized version of the website (read: very very basic).
My Experience:
I had 2 Alitalia flights cancelled last week for October '21 (Italy to Italy and Italy to France), so I needed to rebook. I used Google Flights to see my options and I saw the Alitalia logo but the carrier was listed as Italia Transperto Aereo SPA. After checking the official ITA site, I confirmed the times matched what I saw on Google Flights.
I noticed that it is easier to search flights on ITA using the airport codes. Sometimes you can type in the city and codes will come up and sometimes they wont.
There are 4 classes of tickets:
Economy Light: 1 carry on (8kg), 1 personal bag, Paid Seat Selection, No Flight Changes, No Refund
Economy Classic: 1 carry on (8kg), 1 personal bag, 1 checked bag (23kg), Paid Seat Selection, 65EURO Flight Changes, No Refund
Economy Flex: 1 carry on (8kg), 1 personal bag, 1 checked bag (23kg) Free Seat Selection, Free Flight Changes, Free Refund
Comfort Flex: 1 carry on (8kg), 1 personal bag, 2 checked bags (23kg), Free Seat Selection, Free Flight Changes, Free Refund
The cost savings between Economy Classic with added seat selection at 8EURO was greater than purchasing Economy Flex at +55EURO for my flight. During purchase there was a notation that I would need to add the seat selection after completing ticket purchase. I bought the ticket and it took me to a confirmation page, but no option to add and pay for the seat. I checked my email, but it was the same information confirming my ticket purchase. So I FWD my confirmation email to [email protected] and requested assistance to select my seat. I got an automated email saying they received my email and will get back to me.
The next day (Sunday) I received a call from ITA (+39 phone #), and the rep was able to confirm my seat based on preferences (front or back of plane AND aisle or window). He let me know that my plane was empty thus far so I had my pick of seat, so I went with 1A. He then processed the payment over the phone and sent me an updated confirmation email showing seat 1A. He also warned me that the receipt would say "Alitalia" as they have not updated the receipt template yet. The ITA rep let me know that they are still working on the website and hope to have it finished soon.
I hope this helps anyone who is interested in purchasing an ITA flight during the transition.
