ITA airlines does not honor upgrades

Warning: for those traveling ITA Airlines just know that they do not necessarily honor your upgrades and do not return the money that you paid for them when they don’t. On my trip in December I traveled from Rome to Miami and had paid for bulkhead seating. I got on the plane to discover that my seat had been given away and that I was seated in the last row up against the bathroom. Because it was so unpleasant to sit there I requested the stewardess to give me a different seat and the only one available was in economy. I contacted ITA airlines with documentation two days after I returned home and did not receive an answer for four months. After four emails , because they do not take complaints on the phone, they finally contacted me and offered to give me a voucher for $50 on my next flight within a year. Needless to say that does no is not acceptable because they did not refund my $94 As a result I would never travel with them again. If you are upgrading just know what the possibilities are.

So if you weren't sitting in economy, what section were you sitting in - you were in the last row of what section? Was it still in economy comfort? Was it a seat that someone would pay the upgrade fare to sit in? This was on an A330?

I can’t tell you if someone would have paid for this if it was an upgrade. I never would have chosen that seat upgrade or not. It was the last row backed up to the bathroom. I could hear and feel every flush. I saw the bulkhead seat I had chosen on my phone. I was never informed of a seat change. That was what I paid for and did not get. The only reason for this post is take make others aware that there is no customer complaint service for any reason by phone, emails are not responded to in a timely manner and you don’t necessarily get what you pay for. I have traveled on multiple airlines and have never had this problem before.

Marion, thank you for sharing. You are not one of those "one post wonders" who come on the forum only to complain. You have participated in the forum for an extensive period of time. It is very frustrating when customer service doesn't meet expectations.

I hope the rest of your trip was enjoyable and that you can look forward to your next trip with enthusiasm.

Am I correct that your upgrade was in a premium section (business/first) and that’s why the last row was up against the bathroom? When I first read it I didn’t quite understand. I’m sorry this happened to you.
