Ist trip to Italy in Aug

How early should I purchase my ticket to get a reasonable price? When I first started watching the fares, they were in the $900 range and in the past 3 wks they have gone up to $1500. I plan to meet my daughter there, flying into either in Milan or Florence. She is currently in the Emilia-Reggio region.

There's no reason to think that prices are going to go down. Fuel prices typically go UP during summer.

I'm flying to the US in August--the fares are nuts! I was looking at 1300 EUROS per person (back in early March), though my parents were finding cheaper flights going to Europe than going to the US. Either way, this year it is super expensive!

I built a chart for my friends last year and prices do not tend to drop until about OCTOBER... and that was BEFORE oil jumped over $100 a barrel!

So the pattern is that they will not go down.

There is no way prices are going to come down any. I would purchase it immediately. August is one of the most expensive times.

Gayle,
I agree, purchase your tickets as soon as you can. We leave July 4th and bought our tickets back in Feburary as soon as we figured out our itinerary. I am very glad we did since the news is full every day with reports of airfare increases.

Try using kayak.com and set an airfare alert. I bet that these prices will only go up. The sweet spot for summer fare bargains is late January-mid-February.

Alitalia had some special fares. Yes, the airline smells of bankruptcy, but since it's run by the Ital. government, it won't go down easy (read: not at all).

My family just purchased 5 round trip tickets from Atlanta to Rome for October this year. We are paying $990 per person. Also check with agent on the best days to fly. Some days are higher than others
