Isola di Lipari

Planning a driving tour in Sicilia....we've planned out most of our trip, and once arriving in Cefalù, we will spend a few nights. We want to go to Lipari island....it is worth spending the night out there? Should we leave our rental car at the port, Milazzo? Can you leave the car or should we ferry with the car? I know it's not a day trip from Cefalù, and wondering where we should set up shop a few nights BEFORE driving down to Taorimina.
Suggestions? Knowledge on leaving car at port of Milazzo?
Grazie!

Hi, we have a trip planned in May and are also staying on Lipari. We will park in Milazzo for two nights and take ferry. There are many parking garages near the ferry terminal, but not sure of cost yet.

Sounds like we are heading around the island like you, in May. Coming from Palermo to Lipari, next stop Taormina.

We left the car in Milazzo 2 years ago to stay on Lipari island for 2 days. All of this was to climb the Stromboli volcano. To this date, this is the single most incredible travel experience I've done. Being on a active volcano is something spectacular to experiment.
If you are on Lipari, all of this can be organized by these guys, in collaboration with Magmatrek, one of the 2 allowed tour company to climb the Volcano:

Anyways, getting back to Milazzo, when you'll approach the port on the road close to the sea, you'll start seeing people with cardboards wanting you to go to their parking lots. Thinking this was the official parking, we followed them. They told us the price, told us they were picking us up when coming back, the car was in a secured spot. We decided to leave it there. I believe it was something like 25-30 euros for 2 days.
Knowing this, I would probably continue driving towards really close to the main place, but we didn't regret, everything when really smoothly.
