Where will you be? Islands off the coast of Napoli (Capri, Ischia, Procida) are easy to get to if you are staying in Napoli or Sorrento.

We liked Isola di Giglio. Went for a long weekend last year about this time. We stayed, though, in Porto Santo Stefano (PSS) where there are more hotels, restaurants, and a wonderful waterfront promenade. We went to Giglio each day for two days via ferry, which was about Euro 50 for two people round trip. Great hike up to Castello and the western side of the island has almost a tropical feel. You get there via train to Orbetello and then bus to PSS.

We went to Procida Easter weekend and while the island is nice enough it is VERY small. It was cold our weekend so no beach activity, but we found great food and warm people, as one does in most of Italy. Train to Napoli then ferry to Procida. Ischia also easy to reach from here. On Procida, Hotel Tonnara was nice and fairly priced. There are little minibuses to take you back-and-forth across the island.

So I guess We need another isola closer between Siena and Rome then. We will leave Monterosso, go to Siena and then We are looking for an isola to explore. Thanks did not know the other island was so far south. Thanks.

Giglio is between Siena and Rome, as long as you go to the coast. :-) There is also Elba, just southwest of Siena.
