My wife and I have been to Ischia Porto, but have gotten a few recommendations to go to Gaeta. Has anyone been to both and have a preference? We will be there in early June 2022.

I’ve been to both. Ischia 2 times and Gaeta once.
Ischia by far has much more to do outside of the Porto area. If you want to see the whole island, I’d recommend at least 4-5 days. It has a great bus transportation system, beaches, hiking trails, outdoor thermal spas and wonderful food.

Gaeta is really a great beach town, there are 3 major areas. The port, the mideival city and the two mountain areas, Monte Spaccata (Split Mountain) and Monte Orlando a hiking area
With some Roman ruins. Bus service is available to reach them both as one leads to the other.
3 nites here would be a a nice city break.
