I am planning a trip to this area for a few days in April.
Would you recommend staying on Ischia or Procida?
What are the highlights of each island?
We are low budget travelers that enjoy immersing ourselves in the Italian culture.
Although I have only been to the islands on day trips, my impression was that Ischia has more to offer scenically, while Procida may be more culturally interesting. Ischia has a lot of upscale shopping which may not be your thing as a budget traveler, and hotels are probably pricier there as well.
I have not been to Procida.
That said, Ischia has the Castello Aragonese, Mt. Epomeo, Negombo Spa, Forio, Ischia Porto, Moronti Beach, Sant Angelo, and lots of rabbits. It was amazing.
My opinion, Procida needs 1 night it has homes that remind you of the villages of the Amalfi Coast. Great food and hiking up great sunrises & sunsets.
Ischia minimum of 3.
There’s so much more to do in Ischia.

We found it to be much less expensive and more relaxing than the Amalfi Coast once you leave the Porto area. Plus their bus system will get you just about anywhere.
We stayed 3 nights in Ischia, on our way to Southern Italy, in the Arogonese Castle. It was really not expensive and was the highlight of our trip... Absolutely check it out! Ischia has beautiful little towns with beaches you can see via a local bus. No car needed. They have several Resorts with natural hot springs that are amazing. We went to one called Negombo. They are like an adult water park... so much fun and affordable too. The towns are so charming and the food is out of this world.
I never went to Procida, but I look forward to the day I can go back to Ischia.
I've been to both as daytrips from Naples, and hands down I would say I enjoyed Ischia much, much more.
So pretty there!
Thank you all for your input!
Any recommendations on places to stay (specific hotels), would love to be near the port for day trips to Procida and Capri but also go to the beach a couple of days. I have 6 days: on the list: explore Castle, thermal baths, maybe a bike riding day, one day Procida and one day Capri, so I think staying in Sant'Angelo or Fornia is too far to be able to do those things. Any thoughts? Beginning of June.
