Ischia, Italy

Hello, I want to visit Ischia Island in Italy and want to know where to stay. What would be a nice hotel/flat to stay in for 5 days? I am thinking about staying in Forio area. I prefer something with views, close to the beach, may be even family run small hotel. I plan to go in September. Any suggestions???? Thank you.

Have you tried looking for previous postings here about Ischia? There are instructions in the very first topic in the "To the Boot" section, called "Get Answers to your questions - Searching Rick's archives".

I actually have and could not find anything current, that's why I posted it again.

Have you had a look at the Ischia Forum on Tripadvisor? It has a Destination Expert who is resident on the island and he may be able to steer you in the right direction.

Some people travel on shoestring budgets, some people splurge on 5-star hotels. Some people stick to large cities, some people stay off the beaten path. Some people train, some people drive.

The point is, there are a lot of different ways to travel and a lot of different places to travel to. This site tends towards the "Rick Steves" philosophy, which makes sense, as it's his site! Rick tends to focus on specific places in Europe, and Ischia is not one of them. While I'm sure some people on this board have been to Ischia, generally people who do use Rick's guidebooks won't have been to places he hasn't covered.

Since Ischia is not commonly discussed here, or covered in Rick's books (at least not that I recall--I could be wrong on that one), the best we can do is try to point you in the direction where you might be able to find the information you seek.

We stayed at Hotel Villa Carolina in Forio for a long weekend and liked it. The hotel is very close to the beach, and there are 3-4 good restaurants right in a row next to the hotel, so the location is perfect. We had some issues with the bill however, and it took a while for the hotel to refund the money. I had to wire them money for a deposit, but when I got there they said they hadn't received it. Because I didn't have the info on the wire transfer with me, I ended up paying the whole bill by credit card, then fought with them later to get the deposit back once I proved to them I had sent it.

Assuming that was an abnormality, I'd recommend the hotel. The family room was a very nice 2 level room, and if I remember correctly, the rates were reasonable, especially for a 4 star hotel. The pool on the roof was ridiculously small, barely larger than a hot tub. Definitely not what we were hoping for for our 2 young children.
