Ischia - Have you been there?

My and husband are thinking about visiting Ischia the last week of October. This is our third trip to Italy, we have enjoyed most the tourist sites from Rome to Pompeii, Venice, Cinque Terre, the northern lakes area and the Amalfi Coast. We enjoy the Italian culture. We love Italy. We understand Ischia is suppose to be a hidden gem, a place Italians go to their vacations. We are aware that this late in the season their will be some closures but do not know to what expect. Has anyone been there? Will the island be a ghost town? All insights, suggestions or recommendations are appreciated. If not Ischia, does anyone have a favorite laid back Italian place were we can just appreciate the Italian culture?

Ischia is a nice place, or at least it was. I have not been there since the earthquake. I understand that there was damage.
It's not an undiscovered island....it's a bit touristy. I was surprised to see how popular it is with German tourists.
It is on my list of places I would return to if I were in the area of Naples again.
