Good Morning! My husband and I are headed to the Amalfi Coast 10-13 October (fly in to NAP from London 9 October), planning to stay in Sorrento and Positano. He's eager for a day trip to Ischia after hearing me rave about my day at Negombo thermal gardens in May. Figuring out logistics and lodging, I'm having difficulty finding ferry schedules from Sorrento and Positano. Are they only seasonal, so we would have to go via Naples? Any information on taking a private charter? We were planning to explore the island and spend some time relaxing at Negombo, though I can't glean from their website if they will be open. Will it be warm enough to swim? Thanks so much!
It's at least 20 miles to swim from Sorrento to Ischia. Are you Michael Phelps?
Roberto, tsk tsk.... Elizabeth, I had a trip to Ischia last September and the ferry was running from Sorrento to Ischia; leaving Sorrento @ 9:30 a.m. - last ferry returning at 5:30 p.m. By October, the ferry may be on a more limited schedule. For sure there will be a ferry from Naples to Ischia. The seas are choppy I believe so the schedule may change from day to day. Just guessing that may be why it doesn't come up on the website. Hope you find your answer. Ciao, Linda
Mediterranean waters suffer a big dip in temperatures between mid-September and mid-October. It is unlikely water will be comfortable for swimming.
The current timetable for Sorrento to Ischia (plus other routes) finishes on 30 Sept, so check again after that date. It does not run in late autumn or winter You can go via Naples, weather permitting, all year round http://www.alilauro.it/orari-e-tariffe?route_group_id=13
Thanks for all of the information, very helpful! Looks like we'll go straight to Ischia via Naples and spend the night before heading south!
