Would love to hear from anyone who’s been to Ischia. Is it super crowded? We are thinking of going for a few days in early October.
My husband and I traveled to Ischia for just 4 nights in early September 2023. We stayed in the Ponte area the entire time with the exception of a couple water taxi adventures. We arrived while a festival for a locally born saint was being celebrated. Lots of people in the street for the event which lasted into the night with opera performances and bishops from Naples drawing the crowds. I still would not say it ever felt crowded- not in the way Rome, Florence, Sorrento or Naples feel. To me it felt very local. It was an experience we hope to repeat.
Thank you Beth,
. Do you remember where you stayed?
Hi Becky, we spent 2 nights in an airBnB right in the waterfront in Ponte and then 2 nights at Il Monastero which is part of Castello Aroganese. It is the little island connected by a walkway to Ponte. An old castle and monastery which is amazing. Fabulous grounds with gardens. Our best meal in that entire trip to Italy was at the castle.
YOu'll be ok in October.
I like very much the hotel, IL MORESCO, in Ischia Ponte.
Eks speaks truth (again) even if she has yet to return my wig. Def not crowded in October.
Our TR below will hopefully prove to be of use to those Ischia-bound.
I am done. the end

Ischia in early October is a great choice - much more peaceful than in summer.
It’s a beautiful mix of art, history and nature. You can explore the Aragonese Castle, the streets of Sant'Angelo, relax on the quiet beaches, or soak in the island’s famous thermal spas. If you enjoy hiking, there are scenic trekking paths. The local cuisine is a treat.
We took the ferry from Sorrento and spent 4 days on Ischia at the end of May a couple of years ago. The weather was sunny and warm but not hot, and it was not crowded at all, in fact there were hardly any tourists around - totally different compared to Capri. Ischia is very scenic, and there is a lot to see.
We stayed at the beautiful San Montano Resort & Spa, pictures below. They have a free shuttle that will run you down to the town of Lacco Ameno, and pick you up whenever you wish to return. We found a couple of nice restaurants in Lacco Ameno. We had no problem taking taxis from Lacco Ameno, and no problem getting a taxi back to Lacco Ameno from other towns on the island. Island tours were available at the ferry landing.
Thank you all for your information and reassurance.
