Ischia and Sicily

I have a week (arr on a Monday) before my travel partner joins me the following Monday. Ya'll have had great advice so I'm coming to you for help in planning my week. I have decided to go from Rome to Ischia (2 nights) and Sicily (2 nights) with a day spent in Naples. I can fly from Rome to Palermo or vice versa with EasyJet for $50 and take a ferry (10 hrs/$50) to/from Naples to Palermo. My dilemna is this- I want to relax in Ischia and see as much of Sicily as possible. Do I fly from Rome to Palermo on Tuesday for 2 nights then overnight ferry to Naples (Thursday night) and out to Ischia Fri/Sat night train back to Rome Sunday or train/ferry from Rome to Ischia Tuesday then all day Thursday in Naples with overnight ferry to Palermo stay Fri/Sat night in Sicily and fly Palermo - Rome on Sunday? Help!

Grace, Ischia is easier to reach by ferry from Naples. Perhaps then you could fly from Naples to Palermo. Sicily is big, and if you are relying on public transportation, you'll spend a considerable amount of time traveling (trains are mostly regional, buses might be faster). If you spend two days in Palermo, you will be hard-pressed to spend time in any other city in Sicily.

I realize I won't see all Sicily has to offer in 3 days/2 nights but that's all the time I have and I want to see Palermo, Monreal and Cefalu/San Vito lo Capo/Mt. Etna if possible this trip as I will be back next year for much longer. My main concern for this trip is: Which destination is better to do on a weekend? I'll be there the first week of May and I can be in either Ischia or Palermo/Sicily Tues for 2 nights or Friday for 2 nights. It appears there is a market in Palermo on the weekend that would be interesting but Sundays seem to close everything down.
Thanks!
