Ischia

We have a free room at a 4-star hotel on the island. We are thinking of staying there for three nights to see Naples/Pompeii in early April at the end of our trip to mid-Italy. Anything to do. Difficulties getting to/from there. Costs, etc. Good idea or not?

I too have been wondering about Ischia as I love Sorrento and South of. So far I understand it is an RR resort type area with little to do except spa and related.

Thanks! I think we are still going there in April. I'll provide a report upon my return.

I went to Ischia on the recommendation of good friends--I live in Sicily so it's an easy trip by the ferry. It's a beautiful island with thermal pools. There are local sites to see such as archeological sites, castles, churches, farms. There is also diving and beaches. It depends on what you want from the trip there. If you are looking for famous old sites then probably not your best bet, but if you want the opportunity to relax and enjoy local fare then it's time well worth spent. I went for a spa weekend and it was fabulous. The small resort I went to was family run and all inclusive. The food was wonderful and it was also very reasonable.

Just got back from Sorrento which has one ferry per day to and from the island and cost about 33 Euro per person.
