Is water allowed in the Vatican Museums or not?

I will be in Rome in June. Presumably it will be hot. I know it gets hot in the galleries. The Vatican website says no food or drink allowed in galleries but numerous posts on Trip Advisor say to bring water. So is water ok or not?

The Vatican museums experience no matter how you do it sounds so problematic I’m re-thinking visiting it at all. That is a sad commentary on a highly anticipated sight. Any thoughts on this?

I was on a tour (Walks of Italy) last June and had a water bottle with me. Actually it never occurred to me it might not be allowed and no one said anything. If your worried maybe take a disposable bottle that day.

Thank you for the replies. Sboh: What did you think of your tour as you were there at the same time of the year I will be?

We did the early morning tour with a guide. It was wonderful.

Mr. E: I take museum rules very seriously but touring a hot very crowded venue without access to water could result in a major problem for me. I have found that quite frequently water is an exception to “no food or drink” rules. So I was asking if this was true for the Vatican.
