Is Trevi Fointain worth going to?

Hi we are contemplating a day trip to Trevi along with Pantheon and Borghese gallery in 3 weeks from Florence. We saw Trevi last
Year and was just the start of construction. Is it worthwhile ? I'd love to see it with water and actually get to throw a coin in. Has anyone been in last week or so?

I bet there's a webcam on the fountain, you could give it a look.

We were there two weeks ago, and it looks as in the picture in the skycam. There is scaffolding around the statues, but there is a walkway where you can walk across the fountain and see them close up.

Trevi is a city. The fountain in Roma is still scaffolded, but you can use the webcam site to check progress on it and other locations.

It's not a fountain now. Under renovation and long lines to walk through to see it.
So, not really worth it.

It is not only worth it go visit, but it's a great money investment if you buy it
But watch out when the seller is from Naples, like the famous Toto'.

The fountain maybe limited to a square metre of water, but the crowd is still there long into the night.
Still giving "wishes to return" for the toss of a coin. One out of three hitting the water.

Yes because the walkway brings you right up in front of those magnificent winged horses and the god-men holding onto them. You don't know this is coming until you round the bend, and it is exhilarating. That's when people stop and pose against the backdrop of the mythical figures for foto opps of a lifetime. It's a lot of fun and momentous as we may not get that close again to those statues.

Signs warn not to throw coins from the bridge. The coin pool is street-level at the top of the stairs, opposite the monument.

I was there an hour ago. Ok for a 10 min walk from our apartment but I certainly wouldn't travel any further than that to see a construction site. Having said that if its one of those things you want to tick off a bucket list go for it.

Went by two weeks ago during a hot day and it isn't worth dealing with the crowds to see construction. It is probably better at night but not as spectacular as when it's filled with water. Visit the Pantheon in the early morning (8-9 a.m.) before the crowds and you'll really enjoy it then come back at night to see the square and building lit up. The Borghese is one of my favorite museums ever. Spectacular and not over crowded like many museums.

Yes, I agree with the Trevi not being worth visiting now. All the scaffolding is an eyesore and ruins the experience yet people were still gathering near it anyways. On the other hand, the area it is in is still nice to visit, nice shops and restaurants that don't break the bank.

Count me in on the "Skip it" if you have seen it before. We there 2 weeks ago and it wasn't what I had imagined. Lines to see scaffolding? I don't see the point. I had to let go of this disappointment. There is so much else to see!

I think some people are actually interested in seeing the sculptures up close (thus the lines), it could be a once in a lifetime opportunity for them. Of course seeing the fountain unscaffolded and flowing in all it's glory and tossing a coin (silly superstition) is a fabulous experience but if you're there and it's not possible then only you can decide if it's worth it to you.

Thanks everyone really appreciate your feedback. We are going to go,to Verona and see an opera instead. We saw Trevi last year was just wishing construction was further along.

Hey - I tossed a coin in the fountain in 2008 and it worked - I went back last year! Lol. We just made a quick run by last year - it was in Sept and I didn't even bother with photos. When we were there, there seemed to be a lot of plastic and what not flapping around so it was really just a disappointment...at least we saw it in '08.

I find this thread hilarious but only wish everyone who posted were joking.

"Fountain of Trevi ... hmm ... I give it a 7...

" here is a photo, see if it appeals to you"

I can't quite put my finger on why this is so bizarre - but this approach seems so materialistic and hyper-practical, how could you possibly enjoy travel with such a mindset?

If you go to Rome, of course you should see the Fontana di Trevi! I did not experience crowds when I was there ten years ago - but maybe things are different now.

I indeed love Trevi and did see it last year we are not going to Rome but was considering a day trip from Florence to see it post construction but if still surrounded by construction not, sure we want to make the journey. I do appreciate everyone's thoughts and opinions.

@Jtraveler, time is money on a vacation. The Trevi is now covered in plastic sheets and scaffolding due to a restoration. It's not the must see it used to be, especially when visiting one of the cradles of civilization with hundreds of other things to do and see.

jackie - "time is money", yeah that's exactly the ethos of traveling that i'm talking about. Sheesh.
