I'm looking at a direct flight from NY to Venice @ $500-$600 more than a connecting to Lisbon with 1 1/2 "layover". I know there can be any number of mitigating things that can impact the flights, so aside from these unknowns, is 1 1/2 hours cutting it too close in Lisbon airport? Trip itself is a 2 week Italy, no checked bags, 1 or 2 adults w no kids, and modest $ means. Am I missing anything? TY RS fam.
1.5 hours seems very feasible. Frankfurt is a much larger airport and 1.5 hours is feasible in Frankfurt. Try to book a seat close to the front exit on the flight that arrives in Lisbon so that you can disembark more quickly.
TY for responding but this connection out of Newark specifically stops in Lisbon...This is sourced thru Google Flights.
Flying post-COVID has been an adventure- and not always a good one- with flight delays, cancelations, strikes, etc. In addition, a record number of visitors are heading to Europe this year. If your original flight was late, and you couldn't get another flight out of Lisbon that day, how would you handle that?
You may check your proposed flight on FlightAware for history of on- time arrival.
Good luck!
Great idea to see what the "next" flight option would be if missed the original. ty
Just checking - I presume the connecting flight at Lisbon is not under the same booking as the first flight out of Newark, and you’d be flying on 2 totally separate airlines, right? Not on the same airline, or on partner airlines that are part of an alliance … like United and TAP Air Portugal? So even though you’re carrying on your luggage, you’d still need to check in with your Lisbon-Venice carrier to once you reached Lisbon? If you actually have a “layover,” but it’s on one booking with both flights on that booking, then your airline(s) will get you to Venice, even if there’s a delay arriving in Lisbon.
Saving $500 or $600 is a big deal, indeed. I’d go with the cheaper option myself.
I don’t know LIS but you should check how many flights amped when TAP has to VCE.
Are you flying UA from EWR? TAP and UA are partners so that makes a difference.
