Is this a good area to stay in Venice?

Staying 2 nights family of 4 with 2 kiddos. Wondering if this is a good area to stay in Venice. I very much appreciate any input.

I thought the Cannaregio neighborhood would be best but wondering if we would be better off staying in San Marco directly.

It is just a short walk from the main thoroughfare between the train station and Rialto, yet in a quiet area. And a short walk to the San Marcuolo vaporetto stop to get around the rest of Venice.

I stayed at the Ai Mori d’Oriente in Cannaregio when I had a week in Venice. It was convenient, but quiet. There are plenty of restaurants within a short walk.

Thank you! I feel good about this location. Just one additional question if our family was to spend an evening in st marks square is there means to get back to our location in the later evening hours? Sorry if this is a stupid question. We could walk if there are means. But do the vaparettos run in the evening as well?

The last No 1 boat from San Marco Vallaresso is at 11:25 pm, but the "N" boat runs through the night afterward from San Marco Zaccaria every 30 minutes. It is also walkable in about 30 minutes. Just follow the signs on the corners of buildings "Per Rialto" and once at Rialto, "Per Ferrovia".
