is there time during train layover in milan to see Duomo di milano

Girl scout trip will be traveling from frutigen(switzerland to florence via milan. We would like to take a short stop in milan to see Duomo Di Milano cathedral. Can someone tell me how close it is to the train station, how much time to get to it, is there a reliable place to store our luggage. Also, if you can read the train schedule, if we leave frutigen at 8:25 via brig, milan, florence, can you tell me how long our layover will be in milan and if we have time to get to the cathedral for this extra stop. also, I understand there is a good sandwich place near by to grab a sandwich to go for the train. Does anyone know where this sandwich shop is located or the name of it?
Thanks for the help. getting down to the nitty gritty for the trip

Hi felicia. your connect time in Milan in only 45 minutes; see the schedule on bahn.de. The duomo is a quick metro ride from the station, but certainly not doable in 45 minutes. If you haven't locked in your trains, you could of course take a later train to Florence to allow time in Milan. There are several food stands and restaurants in and near the station where you can grab food for lunch. Enjoy your trip!

Thanks, I have not purchased train tickets yet. still trying to decide if rail pass or individual tickets is a better choice for us and if it is worth losing the flexibility to buy ahead. happy to hear thoughts on that also.

Felicia, point to point tickets are usually a better deal in Italy. You can store luggage at the train station at Milan, but keep in mind that there may be a line for checking in as well as checking out, so you would need to allow that time in your schedule. I think taking the scouts to the Duomo is a great idea, but you would need to leave a couple of hours' layover time to do it. You can also take an elevator to the roof for closeup views of the gargoyles and buttresses, but it may be pricey for a large group (unless you can arrange a group discount).

Yup, agree with others. Its an easy 2 stop (I think) ride on the Metro. Can't be done unless you extend your layover which can easily be done if you plan ahead.
