Is there public transportation from Ostia Antica to FCO

does anyone know if it is possible to go to Ostia Antica for the day, are their lockers at the train station and is there public transportation in the evening from Ostia Antica to FCO? I am thinking we may do our day trip from Rome there and then go straight to the airport for our 4:00 a.m. check in to come home. Has anyone out there done this?

Have no idea. We were there this past June. Ostia Antica is kind on the edge of nothing. The train station is only a stop. Don't remember seeing any buildings or luggage storage or attendents. Ostia Antica is more like a national park with no commercial facilities around it. There is a busy road near the park and maybe a town further down that road. Or maybe the ticket seller could call you a taxi. For OA you change trains, at the Pyramid stop which suggestion you could come back to the Pyramid stop and catch the train to the airport. It could be ticky

You could use Goggle Earth to take a closer look at the train station and the surrounding area. I think OA is well woth the visit but not sure how easy it would be to do on the way to the airport. A TI in Rome should be able to help.

Several years ago in Rick's Rome book he gave detailed instructions for public transit (metro/train) from Rome to Ostia Antica. Check with a recent copy; details may have changed.

The www.trentitalia.com site has good information on what services are in every station in the country. I just checked and there isn't a Ostia Antica stop listed in the Lazio region. Thus, no luggage storage either. Is there another name for the train station stop? I've never been there.

I will take Swan's advice and look at the most recent ETBD Rome edition (I have the 2007 Italy) maybe the buses are the only option, at any rate I want to go but convinced I can't do it and combine a 'getting-to-the-airport' excursion with these plans. thanks all. Ciao!

Larry, it is there. You take the B line to Piramide and switch to the Ferrovia Roma-Lido train. As I remember it is about five or six stops down the line. The train runs every 15 minutes or so. The issue is that it is not on the line to the airport so Chere cannot continue to the airport. I think it is possible to come back to Piramide and catch the train to the airport there BUT don't know that for a fact.
