Is there ever any parking at Cortona?

We were there today and could not find a single open spot at ANY of the parking lots in the historic area. And we waited at some, hoping for people to leave. But it was 11am so nobody was leaving yet.

This is the first of ten towns we visited where it was impossible to find parking. Does anyone have any practical info as to when the parking situaiton is better in Cortona?

Hey, it's May. It's only going to get worse. We just drove around until we found a space on the uphill road entry-side of Cortona, in a smaller lot with a great view. It took at least half-an-hour of searching. Many of the spots were off limits because of repaving or something, that day in 2016. Last Wednesday, I searched for a street space in New York City for an hour. Helps you understand why Orvieto has massive multi-deck garages like a mall! That's one reason I warn people here that you don't just dash into a Tuscan Hill Town for a quick visit.

Yeah, Orvietto and Assisi have huge parking lots, as does even Montepulciano.

Perhaps Cortona feels it can only handle x number of tourists at a time so they do not try to add more parking.
