It's hard to believe how many vaporetti, delivery boats, garbage boats, police boats, ambulance boats, and water taxis are cruising around Venice. Where do all of those watercraft refuel? I assume it is somewhere away from the tourist areas, but I can't seem to find the answer. This is not a burning question for me, but I'm mildly curious to know.
No worries, Venice comes with all the usual big gas stations and Circle K's at all the major highway intersections in downtown Venice, it's kinda like Dallas or Phoenix in that regard.
:)
(seriously) You've succeeded in asking a question that has never been asked here before. Well, there was one person last year who asked if it was easy to get buses or taxis in Venice, later this person tried to say they meant water taxis....
Now you've got me curious, I hope someone knows the answer to your question.
Since Venice's transportation is via waterways...so are the petrol stations. There are stations dotted around various places. One in particular was just outside of the Venice Hilton Molino on Guidecca. I also saw some petrol stations along the waterway from the airport to Venice Island...around the Castello and Cannaregio regions.
Google maps does not return a Exxon stations in the Venice region.
However I don't think it is smart enough to tell me if any petrol stations sell Exxon fuel.
Most of them are far away from the tourist areas (perhaps no different than the concerns in Venice's past regarding moving the glassworks to Murano!). If you do a search on Google maps for "boat fuel in venice, italy" you will see a few in-town stations, but most are at smaller "marinas" on the outer islands. Many folks rent boats from these marinas but to me that would be like driving a car in Naples! And here in Italia, we would search for an ESSO station!
DO that search (Esso in venice, Italy) and you'll see a bunch on the mainland!
Can the water taxi use my non-chipped card at the automated pumps;)
Do they sell those huge 64 oz drinks for $1? Or should I say 1.9 liter drinks for one euro?
Thanks for the info. Where else but the Rick Steves Helpline can you get answers to your questions, with comedy routines thrown in at no extra charge. Awesome.
Actually, around - what I suppose you would call the front - of Venice, which is the part you see coming in on either train or car/bus - to the right is the industrial part of town and if you take a boat all the way around to this area, you will see the boats lined up to their free 64 ouncers.
Lamont, re your "Where else but the Rick Steves Helpline can you get answers to your questions, with comedy routines thrown in at no extra charge. Awesome."
Yep, the humor (or attempts thereat) come at no extra charge here.
I'm going to make a WAG that they might be a tad more, ummm, serious at Tripadvisors.com with a question like yours. We don't have 5 Destination Experts per town, like they do over there, but at least we might make you smile, and smiles are good.
