We are flying to Rome in late September and will take a train to Florence. When I do a google search, it appears that Trenitalia has train service from the Fiumicino Airport direct to Florence. But when I search the Trenitalia site, I don't see the airport listed as a starting point. Should we get a train from the airport to Termini, and take a train from there to Florence? This will be our first time to Italy. (We'll be joining our Rick Steves Tuscany tour group in Florence, and will travel to Rome for a few days before flying home. It was cheaper for us to fly RT to Rome than to do a multi city ticket into Florence and out of Rome, hence the need for a train to Florence when we arrive in Italy.)
Thanks for your help!
There is only 1 per day, so your timing has to be perfect in order to get it. It is at 1:53 pm. Otherwise, just get the Express to Termini and switch to a Freccia to Florence. They go pretty much every 30 minutes.
There is and it is showing on Trenitalia site
Fiumicino Aeroporto
Direct at 13:53 to Firenze SM Novella
There might also be one later but I didn’t look that far
Otherwise take the Leonardo Express to Termini and catch train to Florence there
Be careful about booking in advance as you never know if flight will be late, etc
If you are arriving early AM pretty safe bet you can make the direct train but you also might have a longer wait than necessary
You could probably be on a train from Termini much earlier
Download the easy to use Trenitalia app and buy your tix as soon as you land
Direct does not mean non-stop. Just means that you do not change train. The direct train you listed will stop in Termini.
As this is your first time in Italy, be sure to do some research on how the trains work. If you decide to take the Leonardo Express from FCO to Roma Termini, be sure to validate your ticket prior to boarding the train or you'll risk a heft fine, which will be collected on the spot. Validating tickets also applies to Metro, Buses, etc.
Also, as a previous post mentioned it's generally not advisable to buy advance tickets for the Freccia train to Florence. Tickets for the high speed and express trains are specific to train, date and departure time and if your flight is late and you miss the train you've booked, you'll have to buy new tickets. On the fast trains, you'll be assigned a carriage (Carrozza) and seat numbers (Posti).
Thank you all for your advice!
