Is there a separate line for bag checks at Colosseum and Vatican?

Hi
We will be in Rome from June 10 -12. I have a small cross body bag - 9 inches x 3 inches x 4 inches . I have these questions:

  • is this bag size allowed in St Peter’s basillica and the Vatican?
  • Is this bag allowed in the Colosseum?
  • Do I have to go through a separate or additional security line because I am carrying a small bag ?
  • If I do have to go through a security check and an additional bag check, how much extra time does the bag check take?

Thanks for your help!

That size bag will be fine. It will be opened and examined while you step through the scanner and then handed back to you.
Have fun!

As ponygirl813 replied, everyone goes through the same security check at both monuments, with or without a crossbody or other type of small bag. Larger bags can be checked at the Vatican Museums and St Peter's but Colosseum doesn't offer that service so must should be checked elsewhere if too large for admittance.

You won't have an issue with your small cross-body. The only place where you'd likely have to check it is Galleria Borghese, if you're visiting that one.

Kathy…my nephew used the bag check cloakroom at St. Peter’s Basilica for his backpack last year…after exiting security but before entering the basilica. Is this no longer available?
